In 1976 the movie Hawmps hit the silver screen. The studio behind the film were Mulberry Square Productions, while that name may not be well known, they were the folks that produced the very successful ‘Benji’ series between 1974 and 2004. Whats not to love about a three decade run for your money?

Other than Lawrence Of Arabia, there are few memorable movies that have Camels as a major part of the plot. Camels are not cute (like Benji), camels are strange beasts, with some less than endearing manners. As Jack Young who was involved in the making of the film put it:

I hate camels…they can turn their heads 180 degrees and spit right in your face

What Jack does not point out is the speed, distance, and stench of Camel spit. To class them as a domesticated animal is akin to thinking of Chucky, as a cute doll! Camels are just out and out nasty, bad tempered, practice poor personal hygiene, and are pure evil!

The film Hawmps used the idea that Camels could be a useful tool in a war zone for the US Army, particularly if that war zone happened to consist of desert.

In fact Hawmps, while a comedy was loosely based in historical fact. Wikipedia has at least part of the story correct:

On March 3, 1855, the US Congress appropriated $30,000 for the project. Major Henry C. Wayne, was assigned to procure the camels. On June 4, 1855, Wayne departed New York City on board the USS Supply, under the command of then-Lieutenant David Dixon Porter, a cousin of Beale.

The ship crossed the Atlantic Ocean, and arrived in Smyrna on January 30, 1856, where it loaded 21 (some reports say 31) camels. Two weeks later it departed with the camels and five handlers for the Gulf of Mexico. On April 29, 1856, the Supply arrived at Indianola, Texas. Large swells made the transferring the camels to a shallower draft ship for landing impossible; both ships had to go to the mouth of the Mississippi River to find calmer waters for the transfer. The Fashion arrived at Indianola and unloaded the camels on May 14, 1856. A second shipment of forty-one camels arrived on February 10, 1857.

Yup, the US Camel Corps did exist. Several years ago I read a book on the subject, but for the life of me I cannot recall the title! Old age is a wonderful adjunct!

Hawmps was not a huge box office hit, but it is a wonderful example of fact being stranger than fiction.
Jack even has a few personal photos from Hawmps.

Chris Connelly, alas no longer with us, Chris had a rich history in both TV and the big screen. From Fantasy Island to Hawaii Five-0. Chris had a spot. In Hawmps he played Uriah Tibbs.

Although not directly involved with the movie the very famous Forrest Tucker was to be found around the HAWMPS set at Old Tuscon Studios.

In fact Jack even managed to get a snap with Forrest.

Also in the cast was Jack Elam, playing the part of Bad Jack Cutter.

Jack Elam was a very fine and colorful Character Actor, he never made it big, but he always left an impression with his roles. It is hard to believe that Jack Elam was actually an accountant. The story goes that he ‘bought’ his first acting role by trading his accounting skills!
As the saying goes, every picture tells a story, and that is oh so true of Hollywood.

More soon.

Alexandrea Kingsley actually had the guts to record her roommate blowing smoke into the woman’s baby’s face. Kingsley pretended to be sending a test message but in reality she was recording her with her cell phone.

Although the two women only knew each other a short time in Gilbert, Arizona, Kingsley said it didn’t take her long to figure out the woman’s behavior so she decided to record it, knowing she would need proof other than just her word. She said she had seen the woman hitting her child before.

The baby, Laura is only 10 months old. Kingsley said that Jessica Calloway, 21 would leave the baby in dirty diapers until there were so heavy they would fall off of her. “There’s time she yelled, ‘I wish I never had you, maybe I should just give you away, you’re such a mistake, I hate you, you piece of…”, said Kingsley about Calloway.

Kingsley said she saw Calloway blow marijuana smoke directly into the baby’s mouth and she said Calloway also gave the baby medication to make it fall asleep. The night Calloway was recorded she was really angry. You can hear Calloway yelling at the baby to shut up and then the baby screamed and she was hit on the leg and in the face.

Kingsley said she showed the video to her Dad and then they called the police. When she was arrested the excuse she gave according to court records she said she was having a bad day because she couldn’t find an outfit for her to wear that night on her night out.

Jessica Calloway has been charged with three counts of child abuse for allegedly blowing marijuana smoke in the baby’s face to get her to stop crying. She is also being charged for hitting her daughter in the face and yelling at her to shut the “f” up before she kicked her in the mouth.

I realize this mother is young but if she didn’t want this child why doesn’t she give it up for adoption instead of hitting the child. This baby didn’t ask to come into this world. She didn’t deserve to be so mistreated. It breaks my heart to hear about stories like this.

Someone needs to teach this woman how to be a mother. If she can’t treat this baby better they need to take her away so she will be safe. I do hope the authorities do right by this child to protect her. My prayers will be that God will see to it.

An Amber Alert was issued Tuesday for a 13 year old girl from Hollister, California. According to the San Benito County Sheriff’s Department, Cristina Martinez was kidnapped around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Cristina was described as being Hispanic and she is 4 ft. tall and she weighs about 85 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. The last time she was seen she was wearing her school uniform with a white polo shirt and a blue skirt.

Cristina’s father, 34 year old Marcelino Ramirez, is suspected to have been the one that kidnapped his daughter. He is described as Hispanic that is about 5 ft 6 inches tall. He weighs about 150 pounds.

Apparently there is some major concern for this child because her father allegedly has a history of violence and sexually assaulted his daughter in the past according to Cristina’s mother.

Marcelino Ramirez

Ramirez was last seen driving a white Honda Odyssey with a California license plate number 3WAN638. The rear window of the car is tinted and it has a Coast Auto Insurance sticker on the back window.

The San Benito Sheriff’s Department is asking that if anyone sees Ramirez’s car or Marcelino or his daughter Cristina to please call them at 831-636-4101.

If what Cristina’s mother said about Marcelino is true this girl needs to be found soon before she is hurt. So if anyone sees them please call the authorities. You could save her life or at least save her from having to go through something a 13 year old girl shouldn’t have happen to her. I hope and pray she is found before it is too late. May God be with her.

UPDATE: The Amber Alert has been cancelled. A San Benito County sheriff’s dispatcher says that 13-year-old Cristina Ramirez was found unharmed.

PREET BHARARA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that MARK LEITZSEY was sentenced today to 151 months in prison for his role in the sex trafficking of a teenage girl (the “Victim”) for profit. He was sentenced in Manhattan federal court by U.S. District Judge BARBARA S. JONES. On May 9, 2011, LEITZSEY pled guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge DEBRA FREEMAN to one count of sex trafficking of minors.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney BHARARA said: “Mark Leitzsey engaged in predatory conduct so he could make money off the back of a minor whom he forced to submit to his will. Sex trafficking is an egregious offense, and targeting a minor makes it that much more reprehensible.”

According to the complaint, the underlying indictment, the superseding information, LEITZSEY’s plea allocution, and documents filed in connection with the sentencing:

Between 2009 and April 2010, LEITZSEY sold narcotics to NYPD undercover detectives on several occasions at his then-residence on Union Avenue in the Bronx, New York. During one such sale, LEITZSEY told a female undercover detective, “I run a brothel upstairs and need girls like you to work for me.”

Later, in June 2010, in a consensually recorded telephone conversation between LEITZSEY and an undercover detective (“Detective-1”), LEITZSEY agreed to provide several prostitutes for what he believed would be a bachelor party. The prostitutes were to perform commercial sex acts in exchange for approximately $200 each. LEITZSEY subsequently sent a text message to Detective-1 with a photograph of one of the prostitutes for the bachelor party.

On July 28, 2010, LEITZSEY and Detective-1 met in Queens, New York. During that meeting, which was consensually recorded by law enforcement, Detective-1 gave LEITZSEY several hundred dollars as a downpayment for the bachelor party, in exchange for which LEITZSEY again agreed to provide prostitutes, including a seventeen-year-old girl, who would perform commercial sex acts at the party. LEITZSEY then provided Detective-1 with a link to BoostHookt, a chatroom for Boost Mobile users, and told her to look under his username to see photographs of the girls whom LEITZSEY exploited as prostitutes. The bachelor party was ultimately scheduled for August 6, 2010.

After arriving at a hotel in New York, New York, with Victim-1 and another woman, LEITZSEY was arrested on August 6, 2010. Victim-1, who was 18 years old at the time, later explained to law enforcement that she met LEITZSEY when she was approximately 14 years old. She said that when she was approximately 16 years old and a minor, a fact about which LEITZSEY was aware, he caused her to engage in commercial sex acts in exchange for money on several occasions and kept some or all of the money she was paid. LEITZSEY used violence and threats of violence to force her to engage in a commercial sex act with one of his clients.

In addition to the prison term, Judge JONES sentenced LEITZSEY, 45, of Queens, New York, to five years of supervised release.

During the sentencing, Judge JONES said: “I agree with the government that the conduct was reprehensible, and that may be an understatement.”

Mr. BHARARA praised the work of the FBI and the NYPD.

This case is being handled by the Office’s Complex Frauds Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney AMANDA KRAMER is in charge of the prosecution.

July the fourth in the market town
Farmers have come for miles around
Bringing their wives and children.

I knew it would not take long to find a fourth of July reference in the world of prog rock. One of the wonderful aspects of the genre is just how accomplished the artists are musically. Many have had a classical music training, and that certainly shows through in the quality and innovation of the music.

Prog was defined to me recently in an interview I did with Shawn Gordon (owner of Progrock Records) as a style of music that did not (paraphrased) — fit the 4 minute song profile that radio stations love, is produced by highly skilled musicians, and tends to tell a story.

The quote I use at the top of the article is from a song written by Dave Cousins of the Strawbs, it is from the Witchwood album, and although From The Witchwood is rapidly approaching it’s 40th anniversary is still a classic to most prog rock fans.

In fact this one album is the starting point for an interesting family tree. One that has helped define prog rock even today.

I like to think of the 70′s as being Prog Rock 1.0, now in the 21st century we are on Prog Rock 2.0, yet there are many links, and continuity to Prog Rock. The Strawbs are still going strong, and the last time I spoke with Dave Cousins I walked away with the impression that it would take an act of God to make him stop his quest with The Strawbs. At the time From The Witchwood was recorded the keyboards were run by Rick Wakeman. Rick brought his unique style and love of synths to the band. Witchwood featured both the Meletron and the Modular Moog, and put them in center stage. Several bands had played with the Moog concept, including The Beatles, though the only notable adopter was Keith Emerson of ELP. In fact, against Bob Moog’s advice Keith took the unit on tour. That Modular Moog is still in Keith’s possession, and while he no longer tours with it, it has a permanent home in an LA recording studio.

It was shortly after the realease of Witchwood that Rick Wakeman decided to take the opportunity to join the then unknown band Yes, but he saw great potential. I have to admit that as a Strawbs fan I was not happy. The Strawbs were still a great band, but without Rick Wakeman, something was missing.

In the dieing days of the 70′s decade we also saw the demise of Prog Rock 1.0. What seemed like an overnight phenomenon Prog was dead, “Long live Punk”.

It was around this time that I lost my interest in the music world, and moved from England to North America. In fact for a couple of decades I did not listen to much ‘new’ music at all. Punk, Rap, Thrash, I avoided it like the plague!

Prog did not die, but it suffered some serious wounds. The advent of the 21st century though has seen a wonderful re-emergence of Prog. Maybe the most wonderful aspect is that the new generation are joining hands with the old generation.

A great example is Oliver Wakeman, he has followed in his fathers footsteps, he has mastered the keyboards, and also mastered the elusive art of composing. So good is he, that he has recently completed a tour with The Strawbs, and has been selected by Yes to tour with them as their Keyboard player. Like father like son?

Prog 2.0 has a great opportunity, one that I see as a positive move in the music world. I love the prog 2.0, check out bands like Neo and Pendragon. Sure the equipment has changed, but the sentiment and the compositions are still consistent with the mission. The mission, by the way, is to create great music.

Have a great 4th, and check out the wonderful world of Prog Rock.

Simon Barrett

Dave Cousins is the glue behind the British band The Strawbs, he recently released a solo album The Boy In The Sailor Suit. I have enjoyed his music since the early 1970’s and had the great pleasure of asking him some questions about his long and illustrious career.

You are very, very well known in England, but may not so well known in North America, can you give our readers a brief ‘who is Dave Cousins’?

I would be inclined to disagree. The band is known in England primarily for ‘Part of the Union’, and this has been an albatross round our necks all this time.

We had two careers as The Strawbs. The first was up to 1973 when the band evolved from the folk clubs to becoming a rock band. We had several hit albums and singles.

As a result of the split, because of ‘Part of the Union’, we formed a new line up that toured incessantly in the USA and Canada from 1974-1976. We hardly did any shows in the UK. We had a succession of six hit albums on the Billboard chart, the last five of which failed to chart in the UK. As a result the band became far better known in the USA and Canada than in the UK.

I am the continuity of the band and if you want to know who I am it is all these in my songs. Sometimes you may have to read between the lines, but nonetheless it’s all there.

Your new album is slightly divergent from your Strawbs material, there are hints of Rock and Roll, and even some blues, is Dave Cousins heading in a new direction, or is this just a way to have some fun and let off some steam?

I am continually looking for new ways of expressing myself. The Acoustic Strawbs has been wonderful for this as we have re-interpreted and updated many of the songs and, in my opinion, improved on the original versions.

I write all the time, but neither the Electric or Acoustic versions of the band have a space for a new album as we have albums recently released that still have to be discovered by our audience.

I wanted to get the songs heard and decided that it was time to make a new solo album; after all it is 35 years since the previous one!

The Boy In The Sailor Suit is an album that on the first listen I have to admit I was not sure what to make of. I think that I was expecting another “Two Weeks Last Summer”, which was very Strawb like. A second and third listen had me hooked tho, it is an album that grows on you. What has been the reaction from your fans of this release?

It is still very new but I have not found anyone who dislikes it. Some may not like certain songs but by and large they like the whole thing.

What is surprising is that people who have never heard a Strawbs album before really enjoy it. These are not necessarily music fans – these are people who live in my home town who read about it in the local paper, or who I have a drink with in one of the many local pubs.

Do you have a favorite track on this album?

Probably ‘Calling out my name’. It was written while we were rehearsing and is therefore the freshest. The lyrics started out without a theme but then I began to realize that they could reflect a recent trip to Cadaques in Northern Spain where Salvador Dali grew up. I stayed in a hotel overlooking the bay – Dali’s house is just a couple of miles away around the bay. I visited his museum in Figueres where his tomb is in the vault and I imagined him calling out to Gala, his wife.

I met Dali twice, once in Paris when he came on stage while we were playing at The Rock And Roll Circus in a big top with Rick Wakeman, who was on his honeymoon. The second time, Dali tapped me on the shoulder in the reception of the St Regis hotel in New York and told me he liked my boots! (They were hand made from Japanese silk-screen printed leather). He gave me a bottle of wine!

I am ‘long in the tooth’ and I grew up in the age of The Strawbs, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, ELP, etc. I left England in 1980, and somehow lost touch with the music, I have only recently restarted that quest. I have to admit that I am impressed that so many of these great musicians are still active. The one thing that I noticed in England prior to my departure was the apparent drop in popularity of many bands particularly in the Prog Rock arena, and although you had a very folk feel there was also quite a bit of Prog rock. I ascribed the problem to Punk Rock, which the kids flocked to in droves, therefore weakening the available audience. I recently had the opportunity to talk to Al Stewart (Year of the cat), and he has a different theory, Radio! Suddenly radio wanted 3 minute songs, out were the singer songwriters and anything vaguely creative, and in was Loverboy, and the whole ‘power pop’ phenon. In the space of a blink of an eye the world changed. I thought about this a lot, and yes I think he may be right. What was your recollection of this period (76-79)?

It was disappointing as we became known as ‘dinosaurs’ almost overnight (A punk rock period description). It’s a phrase that still sticks with cynical know-all reviewers in the UK, by the way. In America and Canada there’s no “ageism” and that’s why it is so enjoyable to play there.

However we had moved from A&M records at the time, our sales were slowing down, John Hawken, then Rod Coomes, then Dave Lambert left and I knew it was time to call it a day.

Curiously we were offered a new contract with Elton John’s label on the day before I was offered the job as Program Controller of Radio Tees, one of the first 19 commercial stations in Britain. I took the job and the band members were dismayed. Isn’t it nice though that we can now happily play together without any grudges and, in my opinion, play better than ever.

In a recent interview with your ex band member Rick Wakeman, he says that your favorite composition is ‘Canon Dale’ from what I consider my favorite Strawbs album ‘From The Witchwood’, is he right?

No, my favorite song from that album is ‘Glimpse of Heaven’ and Rick plays it, so he should know!

Oops my apologies Dave, Glimpse of Heaven was what I meant to say. And indeed he is still playing it, It is on his new DVD ‘The Other Side’.

If you look at the history of Dave Cousins we find a really interesting dichotomy, Folk music meets Moog Synth. How ever did you come up with this combo?

We were recording ‘From the Witchwood’ in Air Studios overlooking the junction of Oxford Street and Regent Street with Tony Visconti producing. There was the first Moog Synthesizer in the country installed there – it was huge! Rick got the sound of a Piccolo Trumpet from it and we used it on ‘The Shepherd’s Song’ playing over Mellotron strings.

Off went Rick to Yes who bought him any keyboard he wanted including a Moog. Blue Weaver came in and we had to use one to recreate the songs from the album. In the end it became a signature sound for us because of the opening to ‘Autumn’, primarily over Mellotron.

Why have you opted to stay in England rather than try for the riches of North America?

I filled out immigration papers for Canada in 1978 but my girlfriend at the time wouldn’t go through with it, as she thought she would miss her mum.

I toyed with the idea about six years ago but after touring so much with the acoustics I find the shopping malls distressingly samey.

John Hawken lives in new Jersey and John Ford on Long Island. You would have to ask them but I am sure they would both like to come home, but the price of property in the UK is prohibitive.

What is next for Dave Cousins, more ‘solo’ stuff or more Strawbs?

A bit of everything. I would like to do some solo shows but I feel very exposed. I also have the opportunity to do some shows with The Blue Angel Orchestra. There are however two problems, one, getting all the members with the same availability, and second, it’s a new name and nobody knows who we are.

You are well known, but bands that are not, find themselves with a big problem. How do you get exposure? One solution is the internet. Of course the internet is best well known in the Main Stream Media as the “well of darkness”. It is where you can get free copies of music (bootleg), I have always been a fan of ‘try before you buy’, I am interested in your thoughts. Has the internet made an impact on you and the Strawbs?

It’s a way of getting exposure for new bands. I have only just had a MySpace site set up and have not yet explored how to use it. A friend tells me I should get one of the eBay manuals as it really can work if exploited to its full. The trouble is that I don’t have any time as Strawbs and Witchwood Media (our record company) take an extraordinary amount of time to administer.

Dave, I really appreciate you taking time out to talk to me.

No problem.

Footnote – If you are not familiar with this fine musician Take an album out for a spin, you will not be disappointed.

In his long and industrious music career that goes back to the late 60’s this is only the second ‘solo’ album he has released. The first one Two Weeks Last Summer was an absolute delight, so it was with great anticipation that I tore the cellophane wrapper off this CD. The ‘solo’ part of this album is a bit misleading, it just means that he his not playing with his usual partners in crime ‘The Strawbs’, but with an interesting, and musically different inclined band, The Blue Angel Orchestra. Blue Angel consist of Miller Anderson (guitar), Ian Cutler (fiddle), Chas Cronk (bass), and Chris Hunt (drums), they also have some guests, Chris Ball (Piano), Tony Attwood (Organ), and Elizabeth & Frances Tophill (Harmonies).

The first thought that came to my mind on the opening track was “this guy’s voice has not changed in almost 40 years”. And it really has not, even though Dave Cousins is now in his 60’s you would never guess it from listening to this CD. What has changed is the sophistication of the arrangements. The ‘a little bit rough and ready’ but defiantly endearing style of Two Weeks, has been replaced with a much more grown up production.

What I enjoyed about this CD was the wide range of musical styles that Dave Cousins can cover when left to his own devices. Although way back, Dave was part of the English Folk movement I can not recall a single song where the fiddle was featured, somehow the fiddle never seemed to fit in with The Strawbs ideas. Well he fixes that deficit with a wonderful version of ‘Skip to my Lou’.

But were they folk? That’s a question that many people have asked. How many folk groups do you know of bragged of owning a huge Moog synthesizer? Well The Strawbs had one. So they quickly got re-branded as a prog rock group.

The Boy In The Sailor Suit has no synth, but it does have some good ole rock on it, Mother Luck Rock, and Lonely Days, Lonely Nights are proof of his ability to play this genre. The final track Hellfire Blues is just a classic rock track, I could almost imagine The Doors doing it!

The one thing that remains constant is Dave Cousins ability to create haunting lyrics. I liked every song on this CD. If you like Dave Cousins you will want this in your collection, and if you have no idea who Dave Cousins is, you should get to know him by getting this CD.
I have been looking forward to this DVD since I first heard about it. Oliver Wakeman is Rick Wakemans oldest son. And like his father has embraced the keyboards as his weapon of choice, and like his father has as chosen the genre of Prog Rock as his starting point.

This is the first live DVD of this band, I am a big fan of live performances, the faults can not be covered up and rerecorded, it is what it is.

The band itself is made up of Oliver Wakeman on keyboards, I counted four, including a T1 Korg and a Roland XP-30, the other two I couldn’t get a good angle on. The Korg I believe came out in 1990, so it is not what you would call cutting edge, but it sure has a nice ‘Moogy’ sound. Paul Manzi handles the vocals, and does a very fine job. David Mark Pierce is on guitar, Paul Brown on bass, and Dave Wagstaff supplies the drumming.

Many celebs offspring follow in their parents footsteps, and generally speaking they are dreadful! That is not the case with Oliver Wakeman, he has inherited the Wakeman gene for composing, arranging and playing. This DVD showcases a highly competent prog rock band with huge amounts of potential. Mixing prog rock with an almost symphonic quality every track stands out.

One of the fascinating aspects of this new generation of prog rock, I guess in this internet centric world we should call it Prog Rock 2.0 is the amazing interaction between bands, they are all one big family. Gone are the days of isolationism, the bands collaborate. Oliver has played with Clive Nolan (Neo, Pendragon) on a number of occasions.

Maybe the greatest high, and then the greatest low for Oliver Wakeman has to be some recent events. Yes had decided to do a 40th year anniversary tour, and unfortunately prior commitments prevented Rick Wakeman from joining the tour, Oliver was invited to take his fathers place. Alas Jon Anderson has been sidelined because of medical problems and the tour has been canceled.

If you like great prog rock, you will certainly want this in your collection. It is currently available in Europe, and has a US street date of July/8. You can order your copy by clicking on the Amazon link above.

If you are looking for a unique and different look this year as you dress up for a good old fashioned Halloween party, there is a great bidding war going on Ebay.com for a mask that will almost guarantee to scare people and to top it off, the seller is offering free shipping to the top bidder if you are in the Continental United States.

Here is the product description explained on ebay:

Halloween is only a few months away. Forget Freddy, Jason, Meyers, here’s your chance to scare the *#&% out of everyone and win every costume contest with this amazing Tot Mom latex rubber mask, possibly the most frightening mask on the planet. And I can almost guarantee it’s the ‘only’ Casey mask on the planet. Sculpted to precision for a parody video by enigmatic pop artist / sculptor Torro, only 9 of these film props were made for production and I got my hands on a few after the video wrapped. One of the best Halloween masks I’ve ever seen. This one is in excellent condition and it is numbered 6 of 9. I kept one for myself because I know these will be priceless. A significant piece of crime history. No matter what your opinion of the trial is, this is still one heck of a conversation piece. I bet Nancy Grace would love one of these. Fits most heads sizes comfortably. Let’s never forget poor Caylee. Production used prop, item sold as is. Free shipping in the Cont. U.S. Feel free to ask any questions. International shipping, ask me for a price quote. Good luck.

I don’t know if this is some sort of a prank or not but if you go to ebay.com and type in “Casey Anthony Mask” it will bring you to a page with the mask. As I type this article it shows that it is pre-owned and there is 9h 21m 40s (Jul 27, 201118:00:34 PDT) and as of right now it is showing up to 86 bids.

Prank or not I thought it was kind of funny, although I seriously doubt it is worth $2.50 let alone $24,300. But if it is true, I hope Casey never sees a dime of the money.

A Montgomery County, Pa. D.A., Risa Vetri Ferman, said at an arraignment, that she is seeking the death penalty against James Troutman, 24 of Souderton, Pa. that is accused murdering and raping 9 year old Skyler Kauffman. This move was apparently significant for Ferman because her office claims she only seeks the death penalty in extreme cases.

Personally if this man did what he has been accused of I agree with the DA here. Furman said, “We only pursue the death penalty in cases where the facts are of such egregiousness and the history of the case is so serious that we think it is warranted.”

Troutman had been accused of luring Skyler and a friend of hers into the basement of his apartment but was not arrested for it when the friend’s mother reported it. The prosecutor’s say it was in the same basement where he raped and strangled Skyler.

James Troutman

Reports are that Troutman confessed to killing the girl and then tossing her body into a dumpster. He then went in and took a shower and joined the child’s mother, Heather Clemens, his fiancé for dinner as though nothing had happened. After dinner he left so he could play video games outside on his cell phone.

Troutman has been charged with 1st and 2nd degree murder, rape, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, kidnapping, abuse of a corpse and false imprisonment. He pleaded not guilty when he appeared at his arraignment. His attorney, Craig Penglase claims that his client’s mental health would play a major role when this case goes to trial which is scheduled for January.

I do pray that this man doesn’t get away with this if he is truly guilty. Too many people are walking away from free getting away with murder these days. Something has to be done to help protect our children more. My prayers are with this little girl and her family.
