DVD Review: The New World

When I saw this DVD I kind of knew a little about the subject the film was about. As a woman I know what it is like worrying about your biological clock ticking and worrying that your time might be up for bearing a child of your own. I didn’t have my first child until I was 27 years old and I lost them, I was pregnant with twins. When I got pregnant again I gave birth to a son on my 28th birthday. It was something I had almost given up on. I was beginning to think I was never going to be able to have children especially at my age.

In this film, The New World, I realize the situation was different than mine as I was married to a man. Here we have two women in love with each other, Lucie (played by Natalia Dontcheva) and Marion (played by Vanessa Larre). The French Lesbian couple lives together in Paris and while out in a karaoke club one of them announce that she has decided that she wants to have a baby.

Here we get an inside look at a modern day life of a couple of lesbians. Lucie dreams of becoming a mother, while her partner, Marion isn’t that keen on the idea. They discuss the possibility of Lucie becoming pregnant and then they decide to talk to their parents about it before they decide for sure what to do. Marion goes along with the plan even though she is still not too excited about it.

Once Lucie is impregnated through artificial insemination it sparks a whole new series of events that brings happiness to the couple but yet it also threatens the stability of their relationship. Can it survive once the sperm donor decides he wants to become a part of the baby’s life?

I know a real life lesbian couple that went through the artificial insemination process so I know it can definitely work. To find out if it did for Lucie and Marion you can buy a copy of The New World by clicking on the icon on this page.
