This is in fact the second book in the Oracle’s Legacy trilogy. The third part will be released early next year. The series, I had an opportunity to read the first one, is that fantasy/sci-fi trilogy of epic proportions. This is not your easy to digest fantasy novel, but one that takes thought and some effort to keep up. I would liken it to the “hard” sci-fi type of writing.
The story involves a secret civilization that runs in tandem with our own. Members of the civilization are “enlightened” with powers and continue to battle across the ages for dominance and power. While there are rules of behaviour, the power struggles therein inevitably lead to members breaking the rules.
There is corruption, greed and rivalry running through the novel and the series. If you are the type who likes your novels complicated and multi-layered then this would be apt for you. While not quite in the Neal Stephenson league of writing, this is a similar type of cycle.
I would be shirking my duty as a reviewer if I didn’t warn you that you might want to start at the beginning of the trilogy, Oracle’s Legacy: Children of Sun, and work you way through. Then again there are very few trilogies where this is not the case.
These novels take a bit of work to get into, but the patience will be rewarded.
